Fear Averted

Please note: this is something I found that I had written some years ago, probably in college. It has no date.  But I am going to go ahead and publish it.  I am not going to edit anything, it is exactly as it was written. He couldn't go to the fair that day with me, so he suggested I go with a friend and have a good time. I took Renee.  She enjoyed fair rides immensely, and she was free for the afternoon, so we went. Now, I am very fond of fair rides, but only the ones that spin around.  Those things with nasty drops scare the crap out of me.  Renee, on the other hand, loved all  rides, and especially  the big drops.  When she saw the enormous slide, she went right for it. This was kinda like those slides that one slides down on top of a potato bag, but it didn't have any potato bags.  It was just a free for all, slide on your ass type slide, bright yellow, steep, and vicious. Renee forced me to the top of the slide.  I looked...

Kinks

I was using the hose outside and noticed that I wasn't getting a lot of water pressure. I made sure the water was fully turned on at the spout. I observed the hose and found a major kink. I removed the kink from the hose and the water pressure immediately started to change and get stronger. At that moment, I realized that our body's vitality is like that hose. If the body has no kinks, no blockages, then our blood and energy will flow freely and our cells, tissues and organs will receive sufficient nutrients, oxygen and blood. The water, or energy, will flow like the water from the hose. But if we have blockages in our system, our energy won't flow well. We will only be getting a fraction of the energy that we could be getting. What could cause blockages, those kinks in the hose? A lot of things can cause blockages, some of which we have control over. Stress and emotional problems can disturb the natural balance in our body, and also cause muscles to contract. P...

Mind Diet

Whether we follow it or not, the media makes us aware that a healthy food diet is essential to well being. Plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables (organic if possible), limited processing, fresh, no additives or excess sugars. We know that if we follow a healthy diet, we will feel better, have more energy, and potentially live longer. The scientific evidence is overwhelming. Just as overwhelming is the fact that if we do not follow a healthy diet...if we eat fast foods, processed foods, foods high in fat or sugar...our bodies will suffer consequences, like obesity, diabetes, heart problems, etc. And we just aren't going to function at our maximum capacity on an unhealthy diet. Every day, we have control over what food we put in our mouths. This is a concrete, easy to grasp idea. But what about our thoughts? Whether we realize it or not, we are 100% responsible for the thoughts going through our mind at any given time. Just like choosing between an apple versus fries, we have a...

Daily Forecast

I've been meditating pretty regularly in the mornings. I find that these few minutes of stillness in the morning, before I start any project or speak to any one, are really helpful to collect not only my thoughts, but also my feelings. I think of this as a "daily forecast." With no other distractions, I can concentrate on how I am feeling right now. It's sort of like going to the weather channel.com and checking the local weather. Is it sunny? Partly cloudy? Chance of rain? By really tuning in, I can discover what lies beneath the surface. Am I fairly calm, but with an undercurrent of anxiety? Is it a day when I feel rushed? Am I happy or sad? Focused or flustered? With this knowledge, I can consciously go about my day, aware of the feelings I immediately have. Of course these feelings may change during the day, but at least I have a forecast I can go by. It's really helpful to read forecasts. That way, you know how to dress. Is it rainy? Definitely cl...
