Ring Ring
I've been finding a pretty good indication of what I want to do or what I want to avoid is my gut reaction to a telephone call. And when I say "what I want to do", in this instance, I am referring to my career path. As a massage therapist and part time artist/photographer, there are many branches of work that stem from professions. But I am finding out more and more what I actually would like to do by how I respond to requests. Pilates training? Yes. Speaking to a group about wellness? Yes. Doing a creative photo project or wedding? Yes. But there's some things I don't get excited about. A last minute table massage. A crowded event for photography. Anything that involves me spending more than 30 minutes on a computer.
Now, it's not to say that I will just turn down these less than perfect opportunities. They provide an income and perhaps will spurn another, more desirable job in the future. However, just listening to what I am feeling and how I react helps me move in the direction of working to promote phone calls that I want to receive. How can I make changes in my web site or face book page to attract work that I want to do? How can I refer the work I won't want to do to other therapists or artists that will not only be thankful for the referral but will do a much better job than me because they enjoy what they are doing? What training courses should I take to enhance the knowledge and quality of what I want to do?
I've never been a big telephone fan. But I'd like to be. I don't mean the phone ringing off the hook, but a big sigh of relief when it does ring and I am given the chance to be compensated for something I love doing. What could be better than that?
